About me

I was born in Southern California and grew up about an hour south of Los Angeles. I moved halfway across the country to attend Calvin for my undergraduate studies; I didn’t know anybody in the state of Michigan at the time, but Calvin seemed like a great fit for me in many ways. At Calvin, I completed dual bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and chemistry with a minor in computer science. I was also heavily involved in chapel at Calvin – I played drums on worship teams for all four years of my undergraduate studies, and I spent one year as a Worship Apprentice and another year as a Worship Intern with Campus Ministries. After graduating from Calvin, I started graduate school at the University of California, Los Angeles, and I earned my PhD in mathematics under the supervision of Deanna Needell.

Two years into graduate school, I married my husband Nathanael (also a Calvin grad!), who at the time was a chemistry graduate student at the California Institute of Technology. We enjoy board games (current favorites are Terroforming Mars and Wingspan), puzzles, and birdwatching.
